For the remainder of the year, Jazz Finland International follows the bands and delegates aiming to the international markets. This time we asked Aki Rissanen about his thoughts of jazz fairs and how he sees their value in his own work.
Music Finland opens the co-exhibitor registration later in the year for the Finnish export companies, but make sure you sign up for the Jazzahead! fair first! All Music Finland’s co-exhibitors get the discount for the participation fee, but if you wish to fly solo, remember to register before the early bird rate expires on October 17! The showcase application starts on the 1st of November and closes already on the 22nd.
Iceland-born guitarist Sigurdur Rögnvaldsson’s Dark Forest ensemble is set to release their second album Horizon on 19 October.
The quartet is releasing a new album, Seimiyö on 16 November. The Christmas tour starts from G Livelab in Helsinki on Wednesday 5 December.
The Finnish Big Band federation and Metropolia organized a Finland’s big band championships in Helsinki on Saturday 6th of October.
The new album Ligger du fortfarande i sängen! is released by Svart Records on 2 November and it is composed of pieces written for Swedish poems.
Jussi Fredriksson Trio released their new !+? album on vinyl on Friday 5 October.
The Finnish Big Band Federations celebrates it’s 40th anniversary on 5–6 October. This year, the Finnish Big Band Championships, organized every other year, are held at Arabia Hall (Arabiankatu 2, Helsinki) on 6 October. The event is admission free.
The anniversary year of Vantaan Viihdeorkesteri culminates with the three artists performing Lauri Porras “Aineen ja ajan messu” at Finlandia Hall on 19 November.
The autobiography of Charles Mingus is published first time in Finnish in October. Koiraakin kurjempi (Beneath the Underdog ) is published by Aviador Kustannus and the it is translated by Jussi Niemi. Live interpretations of the Mingus’ music are heard at the book release clubs in Helsinki, Tampere, Kotka and Pori.
