A young person’s observations about the world and insightful compositions with plenty of room for improvisation are at the core of singer-composer Selma Savolainen’s music. The quartet has garnered plenty of praise for their intensive, moving live shows, and with the release of their debut album in the summer we can finally also enjoy them on our stereo.

Lithium is a Finno-Portuguese quartet who issued their first album, RED, on the famous Dutch label Challenge Records this February. The disc was received enthusiastically, and it was met with five-star reviews in a number of international jazz media. Belgian newspaper De Standaard stated that despite its young age the group is “a very tight-knit and mature unit that plays modern Nordic jazz with a fresh touch”.
