The annual Jazz-Espa takes over the Esplanadi park from 27 July to 1 August with almost 20 top-notch ensembles performing at the Espa open air stage. Jazz-Espa features 75 Finnish and international musicians in the free concerts, including such names as Linda Fredriksson, Anni Elif Egecioglu, Eero Koivistoinen and Verneri Pohjola.
The annual Jazz-Espa concert series is organized by Jazz Finland (the Finnish Jazz Federation) for the 21st time. The event features 17 world-class ensembles on 27 July – 1 August, with styles ranging from experimental to more traditional. The afternoon concerts take place every weekday at 4.00pm and 5.30pm, and the lunch concerts start as early as 1.00pm. On Saturday there are two matinee shows, at Noon and 2.00pm. All the concerts are free, family-friendly and accessible.
As always, the open-air festival will deliver both fresh acts and seasoned veterans, providing a beautiful cross-section of Finnish jazz today. The festival has established itself as one of the cornerstones of Helsinki’s summery jazz life among both tourists and Helsinkians. Last year the concert week and its side events drew an audience of over 4.000 people.
