Saxophonist-composer-arranger-conductor Ville Vannemaa will take up the post of artistic director of Turku Jazz Orchestra from the beginning of next year. He will follow in the footsteps of Tero Lindberg, who has been leading the orchestra since 2018.
Otto Eskelinen, Olavi Louhivuori and Superposition feat. Elsa Tölli will also perform at the event. Pianist Greg Foat has unfortunately canceled his gig at the festival. We Jazz 2021 will be celebrated from 28 November to 5 December. in different parts of Helsinki.
One of Finland’s most distinctive saxophonists Mikko Innanen presents his new ensemble Autonomus on its first Finnish tour on in November 2021. Starting from November 17th the quartet formed by great Nordic talents will play 12 concerts across the country and one final concert in Vilnius on November 30th.
The 33rd Lahden Jazztori festival, organized by Lahti Big Band ry, takes place this weekend.
Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi will be performing at Pori Jazz on Friday, July 15th in 2022. Festival tickets are available for a special Christmas price at Ticketmaster Finland.
Valtionosuusjärjestelmän uudistuksen myötä jazzia tuetaan aiempaa enemmän vuodesta 2022 alkaen. UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestran rahoitus saa jatkoa ja Jazz City Turku nousee uutena toimijana esittävän taiteen valtionosuuden piiriin. Jazzia tuetaan yhteensä 39 henkilötyövuoden verran.
Finland’s most prestigious jazz awards were celebrated on the 5th of November at Tampere Jazz Happening. Jazz Finland granted the Yrjö prize to drummer-composer Mikko Hassinen, and acknowledged singer-pedagogue Maija Hapuoja with the Andania Award for lifetime achievement in Finnish jazz. Yle Jazz Radio presented their “Shadow-Yrjö” recognition to manager Pia Raitala.
The 40th international Tampere Jazz Happening will be organized at the Tullikamari’s Pakkahuone, Klubi, as well as restaurant Telakka venues between 4th and 7th November 2021. During four days, altogether 23 ensembles will perform at the festival, including the winner of this year’s Yrjö Award, who will be performing in conjunction with the award ceremony that takes place at the festival. This anniversary year’s festival program includes artists such as John Scofield & Dave Holland, Lakecia Benjamin, and Pepe Willberg & Jukka Eskola Statement.
