Jyväskylä’s Summer Jazz Club kicks off with a bang

The monthly Summer Jazz Club concert series, taking place at Jyväskylä’s jazziest bar Poppari, kicks off on Tuesday 24 May. The first edition of 2016 will combine experienced talent and youthful joy of playing when the stage is taken by the internationally recognised pianist Alexi Tuomarila and the young, local musicians of Kae-nuu. Tuomarila will introduce his brand new act, Alexi Tuomarila Lithium: a trio composed of up-and-coming stars bassist Joonas Tuuri and drummer Jonne Taavitsainen.


New Album Out From Jukka Perko Avara

Two guitars and a saxophone, Jukka Perko Avara is an unusual dream team that has no seams and knows no bounds. The group’s new album will be available through on of the biggest European jazz labels, the German ACT Music, on 27 May, and a launch party will take place on the brand new G-Livelab club in Helsinki.




State grant to boost Internationalisation of Finnish jazz

The Ministry of Education and Culture has allocated a special export grant of 80,000 euros for the project Jazz Finland International. The project aims to promote the internationalisation of Finnish companies operating in the field of jazz music.



Two new albums out on Eclipse Music on 13 May

The Tampere-based record label is determined to reverse the bad karma of Friday the 13th by releasing not one but two new albums: Unicorn Attack by Njet Njet 9 and Belonging by vocalist Johanna Elina. 

 


Sointi Jazz Orchestra issues debut on 21 May

Led by composer-arranger Rasmus Soini, the 18-piece Sointi Jazz Orchestra bring out their anticipated debut album on 21 May. Entitled Syntymä (Birth), the album is comprised of early material and will be available on CD, vinyl and in digital format. The group invites all fans to celebrate the effort at Koko Jazz Club on Sunday 29 May.
