Like in previous years, the club will deliver plenty of jazz this season.
The autumn season of the TTT club series, hosted by Tampereen Työväen Teatteri (Tampere Labourers’ Theatre), kicks off on 8 September with a visit from one of the most interesting jazz outfits of the moment. A union of A-listing faces, Flame Jazz Messengers release their debut album, Port Arthur, on a tour that stops at Helsinki, Tampere, Turku and Salo. The group gives a show at Tampere’s TTT Club at 7:00pm, with the doors opening one hour prior to the showtime.
Thematically, the new album draws from the spirit of the old capital, Turku, and the preservation of the Baltic Sea. Their music, written by vibraphonist Severi Pyysalo and drummer Jussi Fredriksson, combines strong melodies, soloistic acrobatics and intense dynamics. “With its groovy atmosphere, the album reflects the jazz boom prevailing in the city,” says Fredriksson, who has also produced the effort.
In addition to Fredriksson and Pyysalo, the sextet comprises the acclaimed trumpeter Verneri Pohjola, the Swedish tenor saxophonist Karl-Martin Almqvist, and two younger-generation stars alto saxophonist Max Zenger and double bassist Teemu Åkerblom.
