Though drummer Mika Kallio (b. 1974) seems to feel at home in almost any jazz style, the most he has worked on the field of free jazz and with music outside the mainstream genre. Good examples of these are groups like Nuijamiehet, Gnomus, Gourmet, singer Mia Simanainen's Ahava and Kari Ikonen's Karikko. Kallio has also done many Vapaat äänet -tours. The many duo gigs Kallio plays with other versatile musicians, for example with Mikko Innanen, are a perfect example of the courage of the drummer, but the duo projects with other drummers, for example with Jaska Lukkarinen and Anssi Nykänen, shows it even better.
