Biography

Drummer Mika Kallio released his third album IMPULSION in early 2017. The album consists of new compositions for percussion and also completely improvised recordings.

The collaboration with dance artist Satu Rinnetmäki started in 2016 and has strongly influenced on the birth of the album. All compositions were born through dance/percussion improvisations. Some of these are included on the release as DVD format.

IMPULSION is an improvised work for a solo drummer and a dancer. It is based on the impulses of rhythm, sound and motion and the strong tension created by these elements.

Drums and metal instrument produce a strong vibration. The work examines the interaction between this vibration and the dancer’s kinetic energy and aims to get these two elements to resonate with each other.
