Founded in 2015, Afrojazz Quintet's soulful afrofunk has its roots in afrobeat, blues, reggae and jazz. In 2016 the quintet took up residency as the house band of the popular Afrojazz Club, and featured such guest soloists as Sakari Kukko, Sam Huber, Jimi Tenor, Meissa Niang ja Ismaila Sané. In 2018, blues singer Charlotta Kerbs joined the quintet as a permanent solo vocalist.
In 2019, the band released their first album Bongo Jazz. The music of Afrojazz Quintet takes its listeners on a journey from West Africa to New Orleans and from jazz to psychedelic rock.
The band is preparing to release new material that will be heard both live and as releases. The lyrics written for Afrojazz Quintet by California poet Matthew John will carry a message of peace that is especially topical these days.
