Biography
Steamy! continues the way outlined by the debut album Soul Trio, creating swinging contemporary jazz drawing from the tradition of soul jazz.
On the new album, trio fuses Brazilian rhythms to their own sound, and brings special colour to the sound palette with Teppo Mäkynen’s vibraphone. In addition to the singles released earlier this year, bossa nova-style “Tiny B” and energetic “Stick Of A Branch” the album features for example a lively samba piece “Old Stones”; gently swinging and contemplative “Smash”; funky ending track “Steamy”; and the only cover piece on the album, Gary McFarland’s playful “Hanky Panky”.
“Steamy! is a natural continuum for the swing and soul toned sound of the first Soul Trio album towards more rhythmic and versatile expression”, Eskola comments. “The ensemble does not aim to reinvent the wheel, but enjoys new compositions’ positive energy and new musical frames, which give plenty of where to draw from on live concerts.”
