Top pianist Joey Calderazzo to perform at Ruissalo Shipyard this summer – Turku Sea Jazz evening programme revealed

Held for the sixth time, Turku Sea Jazz is expanding this summer to Ruissalo Shipyard at the turn of July and August. The evening concert programme in Ruissalo features American pianist Joey Calderazzo, acclaimed British saxophonist Camilla George, and two of the hottest names on the Finnish jazz scene: Selma Savolainen and Maja Mannila. Taking place on 29 July–1 August 2026, Turku Sea Jazz begins at Cathedral Park Terrace and on the island of Seili. As always, concerts will also be held daily in the maritime quarter of Forum Marinum and aboard museum ships. The full festival programme will be announced at the end of April.

Abysskiss – Retro-futuristic jazz over Finland and the Baltics

The “retro futuristic pocket orchestra” Abysskiss arrives from France on 10 March for a 10-concert tour around Finland and continues in the Baltics from 21 to 28 March with two concerts in Estonia and four in Latvia. The tour is part of the Francophony month.

The Jazz Federation launches the Jazz for Kids concert series in Helsinki

The Finnish Jazz Federation is launching the Jazz for Kids concert series in collaboration with Helsinki’s cultural centres as part of the Jazz in Finland 100 anniversary year. The initiative aims in particular to increase children’s opportunities to engage with jazz culture across Helsinki, while also developing musicians’ audience engagement skills. The programme is supported by the City of Helsinki.

The Jazz in Finland 100 Discussion Series Opens at the Savoy JAZZFest on March 5–6

In celebration of the Jazz in Finland 100 anniversary year, the Finnish Jazz Federation is organizing a series of jazz-related discussions in collaboration with the University of the Arts Helsinki and the University of Helsinki. The first discussions will be held in cooperation with the Savoy JAZZFest on March 5–6 at the Savoy Theatre in Helsinki. On Thursday, March 5, the discussion will explore how jazz lives on, evolves, and is reflected in the work of today’s artists. On Friday, March 6, the focus shifts to the history of Finnish jazz and the broader significance of jazz in our popular culture and society.

Jazz in Finland 100 Celebrates One Hundred Years of Finnish Jazz

The Jazz in Finland 100 anniversary year, celebrated in 2026, highlights Finnish jazz as well as its societal significance and its wide-ranging influence on Finnish popular culture over the past hundred years. Throughout the anniversary year, performances across Finland will both honor jazz’s history and look boldly toward the future.

In the first Jazzkynä article of the Jazz in Finland 100 anniversary year, music journalist Matti Laipio takes the reader on a hundred-year journey through Finnish jazz. The story begins in 1926 and moves through the wartime years, the formation of institutional structures, and on to the present day. At the same time, the article offers a preview of the themes of the Jazz in Finland 100 website, which will be launched on 4 June.
