Jazz in Finland 100 Celebrates One Hundred Years of Finnish Jazz

Today, Finnish jazz is more diverse and richer than ever before, and its creators rank among the international top tier. The Jazz in Finland 100 anniversary year, celebrated in 2026, highlights Finnish jazz as well as its societal significance and its wide-ranging influence on Finnish popular culture over the past hundred years. Throughout the anniversary year, performances across Finland will both honor jazz’s history and look boldly toward the future.

In the first Jazzkynä article of the Jazz in Finland 100 anniversary year, music journalist Matti Laipio takes the reader on a hundred-year journey through Finnish jazz. The story begins in 1926 and moves through the wartime years, the formation of institutional structures, and on to the present day. At the same time, the article offers a preview of the themes of the Jazz in Finland 100 website, which will be launched on 4 June.

Jazz City Turun kevätkausi 2026 tarjoaa monipuolisen kattauksen jazzia ja rytmimusiikkia tammikuusta toukokuuhun. Ohjelmassa yhdistyvät Flame Jazzin klubikonsertit, koko kaupungin maaliskuussa valtaava Turku Jazz Festival sekä Turku Jazz Orchestran suurimuotoiset tuotannot. Kevään aikana kuullaan kansainvälisiä huippuartisteja sekä kotimaisen jazzkentän ajankohtaisimpia nimiä ja suunnataan tuttuun tapaan myös jazzristeilylle.

First performers announced for Pori Jazz 2026 main concerts

The 59th international Pori Jazz festival, to be held July 10–18, 2026, will once again offer a diverse range of musical experiences. The festival’s main concerts will be held at the Kirjurinluoto Concert Park from Thursday, July 16, to Saturday, July 18, and, as usual, international stars and Finnish favorites will take to the stage.

The third major programme release of the Oulu Music Festival continues the Jazz Finland 100 theme launched by the Opening Concert with four additional jazz concerts. Alongside the celebration of 100 years of Finnish jazz, the programme also offers a folk-music time journey from the roots of the kantele tradition to a future coloured by robotic kanteles.
