Tuomas Ruokonen Quartet is a band built around the music of drummer-composer Tuomas Ruokonen, founded in spring 2017. The band's music combines Nordic jazz with the spiritual post-rock sound of Sigur Rós. In the expression of the quartet improvisation deepens the stories hidden in the melodies of the songs, which have originated from real-life observations.
Tuomas Ruokonen is currently living in Holland and completing his master's studies at Codarts University of the Arts, majoring in jazz drums and composition. Ruokonen's main project is Tuomas Ruokonen Quartet.
The band consists of young but experienced musicians. The band's guitarist Ville-Veikko Airaniemi (Arppa) works extensively in the Finnish music scene, and he has been seen performing at the biggest domestic festivals such as Flow Festival. Bassist Oskari Siirtola (Juho Valjakka Trio, Sointi Jazz Orchestra) is a meritorious big band composer, winning second place in the Helsinki International Big Band Contest 2021. Pianist Toomas Keski-Säntti is currently doing his master's studies in New York and can be heard in the ranks of Jukka Perko PreBobbers and OK:KO, among others.
