Trumpetist Tomi Nikku is known for several of the contemporary generation's jazz bands (Bowman Trio, Maxxxtet, Alder Ego, Sointi Jazz Orchestra) and as a solo artist for UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra. Founded in 2018, Nikku's 5tet band consists of powerfully expressive musicians, who in this ensemble access new roles for themselves. Nikku's bold compositions and arrangements have been inspired by modern jazz, big band music and classic Blue Note recordings.

The band's debu album Light & Shade, released in September 2021, is a two-part ensemble in which the atmosphere of the compositions in the first part is optimistically light and uplifting. In the songs of the latter part, Nikku, in turn, has channeled the feelings and thoughts caused by injustice and social extremism.
