Founded in November, 2014 Soul Boatz is a newish group, composed of four experienced pop and jazz musicians. Stylistically, the group draws from the slightly more electronic corner of jazz, naming the likes of Miles Davis's "Tutu", Weather Report and Pekka Pohjola as their biggest influences.
Each of the members has an impressive CV. On the trumpet and the keys we have Antero Priha (UMO, EBB, Breadmachine, J. Karjalainen, Afrocola etc.); on the guitar, drums and keys Hannu Pikkarainen (Vesa-Matti Loiri, Aki Sirkesalo); electric piano and synths are in the able hands of Pekka Gröhn (J. Karjalainen, Pekka Gröhn Blue Piano Band); on the bass Eerik Siikasaari, known from Trio Töykeät; and on the guitar Julius Heikkilä (Sound & Fury). The group's repertoire consists of originals composed by Priha and Pikkarainen.
Soul Boatz are currently working on their debut album, due to be released in spring 2015.
