In addition to Kirmo Lintinen's own compositions, the repertoire of Kirmo Lintinen's trio consists of not-so-worn-out musical and film tunes from composers that include Jerome Kern, Cy Coleman, Ray Henderson, Jule Styne, Miklós Rózsa, Friedrich Hollaender, Bernard Herrmann, John Barry. The versions of the songs trio has decided to perform are ones that suit their collective play the best, which is surely something that the audience can feel too.
Lintinen's collaboration with Ville Herrala and Mika Kallio began in 2008, when Lintinen assembled a jazz band for Karita Mattila's jazz concerts. Since then, the trio has performed with several singers.
Kirmo Lintinen has worked in the UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra as its pianist, conductor and artistic director; he has conducted the most orchestras in UMO's history. Lintinen has also collaborated with almost all Finnish orchestras. Composing has been Lintinen's main focus since the turn of the millennium, and he has proven to be one of the most skilled and versatile composers in our country. The Finnish Jazz Association's Yrjö award was presented to Lintinen in 2003.
Ville Herrala is one of the most employed jazz musicians of the moment. He has collaborated with, among others, the following legends: Jukka Perko, Severi Pyysalo, Jukkis Uotila, Eero Koivistoinen, Otto Donner, UMO, and plays an influence in bands such as Teemu Viinikainen Trio and PLOP, which won Jazz Emma 2023.
Percussionist Mika Kallio is known for numerous leading domestic jazz music projects such as Mortality, Verneri Pohjola & Mika Kallio (Animal Image), and Pauli Lyytinen Magnetia Orkesteri. His latest work is the critically acclaimed Gong Odyssey album, which earned five stars in Helsingin Sanomat's Harri Uusitorppa review. The album is a conceptual piece that takes its listeners on a fascinating journey into the sonic space. In his work, Mika Kallio uses a wide range of different percussion instruments, and especially - as the name suggests - gongs.
