Timo Kämäräinen (b. 1979) played as a child both piano and guitar but when he got his first electric guitar for a birthday present at the age of 11, the choise between piano and guitar was fairly easy. In his teens he studied music in the Kuopio Conservatory and the music high school of Kuopio, but in the late-1990s he moved to Helsinki to study at the pop/jazz department of Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. In fall 2001 he started his studies at the jazz department of Sibelius Academy when his career as an active and all-around freelancer-musician was already going strong. Soon he was also joined in Ismo Alanko's Säätiö where he has played since the release of the live album Elävää musiikkia in 2002.
One of the first jazz bands for Kämäräinen in Helsinki was Eeppi Ursin Band that was formed in 2001. Another one, and at the same time completely different than Eeppi Ursin Band, was Pepa Päivinen's quartet that was born when Kämäräinen joined Päivinen's trio in 2004. Kämäräinen has also performed once in a while with Turgan Trio, a group formed by bassist Tuure Koski, vibist Severi Pyysalo and drummer Marko Timonen. The most active group for Kämäräinen has although been the edgy rock trio Beagon.
Kämäräinen's debut soloalbum Unea was released in 2005 and in the same year Kämäräinen performed around Finland with a group performing Unea's compositions. The second solo album Pulpae was released in 2010 that was clearly more focused on different sounds of the electric guitar.
Although Kämäräinen is probably best known as a rock guitarist, he is a versatile professional musician who bends also into more delicate expression. In May 2007 he performed as a soloist in a joint concert of Radio symphony orchestra and UMO Jazz Orchestra.
