For the last two years I 've been figuring out what is 'real jazz', what's my or other peoples definition of it, and ultimately if I even want to recognized by this community of jazz and jazz education, because it is so oblivious and directive. I'm pretty sure the biggest problem lies within the education and institutionalizing jazz. My personal solution to make any sense to this is to stay true to my background, influences, curiosity and to study the history of Black American music.
