Ilmari Pohjola (b. 1979) became familiar to the Finnish rock-audience as a member of the prestigious Ultra Bra band in 1996-2001. In late-1990's Pohjola played jazz music mainly in Gourmet, a band formed by saxophonist Mikko Innanen and guitarist Esa Onttonen, but in 21th century this trombone player has become more familiar thorugh several jazz bands. Pohjola has also played and done a lot of cooperation with his trumpetist brother Verneri Pohjola and bass player dad Pekka Pohjola.
Nu-soul-band Quintessence and the funk version of it, Q-Continuum, employed Pohjola a lot during the early-21st century: he played in live-bands and on albums and participated actively in song writing. The trombonist has a big soloistic role also in Oddarrang, a band formed by drummer Olavi Louhivuori, that got lots of positive feedback especially from it's debutalbum Music Illustrated in 2007.
Pohjola has also proved his versatile musician skills by leading his own projects: an artrock band Silvio and Pohjolan Ilmari rockband that got lots of good feedback. Pohjola has also played in Lasse Mårtenson tributeband and a children's music band called Kalapojat.
