Atro "Wade" Mikkola (b. 1956) left to get his jazz education from U.S. already in a young age and has thus recorded many of his most important albums and formed his most influential groups on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. After returning to Finland Mikkola has however performed actively with his own quintet and as a visitor with many top jazzmusicians. He has also been an active conversationalist and a spokesman for the American jazztradition in different associations, such as Freelancemusicians and Jazzmusicians.
