Biography

Double bassist Joonas Tuuri has made a name for himself in the ranks of Anna Inginmaa, Bowman Trio and Lithium, among others. Tuuri's self-titled quartet released their debut, Dimensions, in March 2022. The album flows through contemporary jazz currents of the North, and reached a solid international audience with three pre-released singles.

The singles She Said No, Abyss, and the title track Dimensions were released in early 2022, and have gained significant air time on internationally significant editorial playlists such as Jazz X-press and All New Jazz. She Said No was also number one on YouTube Music’s Jazz Hotlist during its week of release.

"I founded Joonas Tuuri Quartet in 2017 to perform my own music. I've composed a lot of songs over the years and wanted to get to perform and record them. With Dimensions, this dream will finally come true and it's a great feeling to have these long-lived compositions recorded and get my voice heard in a new way", says Joonas Tuuri about the album.

Tuuri, who graduated from Sibelius Academy, is one of the most sought-after double bass players in the Finnish jazz field. His compositions have previously been recoded i.a. by the band Lithium. Dimensions is entirely Tuuri's own handiwork and his most significant work as a jazz composer so far.
