The Erik Lindström Foundation, in co-operation with Finnish Pop & Jazz Archive, awards one or more young Finnish jazz musicians with a grant every year, especially to support studies abroad. The foundation, started in autumn 2002 by musician and composer Erik Lindström, has awarded the stipend since 2003. To date, the number of awarded musicians has reached 15 and the total sum of donated funds has topped 30 000 euros.
Urho Trio, founded by Ville Vannemaa (saxophones), Teemu Åkerblom (bass) and Mikko Arlin (drums), and of the three members Vannemaa and Arlin are among former recipients of the Lindström grant. The Finnish jazz legend, Lindström, himself will be present at the event on Tuesday. The event is organised by Helsinki Jazz ry and the Finnish Pop and Jazz Archive JAPA and supported by the City of Helsinki Cultural Office and the Finnish Music Foundation.
The concert begins at 7PM (doors open half an hour earlier).
