Young Nordic Jazz Comets light up Lavaklubi on May 9

Brand new jazz comets are launched on their orbit on Saturday, May 9 at Helsinki's Lavaklubi at the National Theatre. Come and cheer for your favourite band to win the contest and represent Finland at the annual YNJC showcase!


Join Koko Jazz Kannatusyhdistys ry

Koko Jazzin Kannatusyhdistys ry (Koko Jazz Supporters’ Assiciation) was founded on 5 March 2015 by Timo Hirvonen, Jouko Paananen, Severi Pyysalo, Arttu Takalo and Anna Veijalainen. Having operated formerly as a part of the KokoTeatteri ry, Koko Jazz Club becomes now a more distinct entity with the foundation of its own association.


Towards free solos and collective tunes

Next writer in the Jazzpresso series is pianist Jussi Fredriksson. Turku-born Fredriksson represents Finnish jazz profession at its best - or worst - as he produces events, runs a record label and participates in the culture-political discourse. Fredriksson is not concerned about the demise of tradition in jazz music, but instead is contemplating over how to protect the artistic liberty and independence.


New album coming from Timo Lassy at the end of May

Timo Lassy, one of the fixed stars of Finnish jazz, issues a new album on German label Membran. The upcoming release, entitled “Love Bullet”, will be celebrated at Bar Dubrovnik in Helsinki on 3 June with two full-length live sets.
