The Zone society was founded at the beginning of the 1990s by five Finnish jazz composers, Eero Koivistoinen, Kari Komppa, Jarno Kukkonen, Jukka Linkola and Jarmo Savolainen.

They maintain an orchestra, the Zone Ensemble, that has a line-up varying according to need. Zone is not a band but a non-profit society. Zone has produced many projects which contain interesting music ranging from mainstream, fusion and free jazz to avantgarde classical.

Their latest release First Definition contains compositions by the founder members performed by some Finnish top musicians.
