The quirky quartet formed by Mia Simanainen blows definitions into the winds of the sky as they create new things from the old. The backgrounds of the musicians range from jazz music to baroque, Argentine tango to contemporary music, improvisation and all sort of experimentation. This has made the musical journey of the quartet a real exploration for seven years.
The debut album Elixir was released in 2016. The band's second album Early Music in the Latest Way (Alba Records 2020) contains compositions from the Renaissance and Baroque periods, which are performed with non-traditional arrangements. It's a real time travel: the quartet cherishes the beauty and spirit of old music, but interprets it with the creative frenzy of the future.
Quartet Ajaton has toured and given concerts in Finland, Sweden, Estonia and Russia.
