The 2006-founded Mirja Mäkelä Trio, made up of seasoned veterans of Finnish jazz, presents mainly singer Mirja Mäkelä's original compositions. Mäkelä’s music is based on the works of Finnish poets, such as Kirsi Kunnas, Sanna Karlström and Heimo Hatakka. The trio has been praised for their distinctive and fresh compositions, interesting arrangements, and immediate and captivating atmosphere.

Since 2021, the trio presented themselves with a brand new repertoire, which was recorded in December 2021. At the same time, the renewed line-up was presented when Teemu Viinikainen, who had previously held the position of guitarist, changed to Tuomo Dahlblom. The band's new record will be released in April 2022 with Eclipse Music.
