The idea of KAIRA is unique. Once a decade the best jazz musicians of Finland join forces to create an album of brand new Finnish jazz as the band KAIRA. Most of them run their own bands, but in KAIRA they play together. That is why media  has called KAIRA “the super team of Finnish jazz”.
 
The composition of the musicians varies from album to album. The first album Urban Sagas of Northern Cities (Svart Records 2017) contained songs of loving and loosing love and everyday life in the north. The musicians on this album are: Markus Niittynen (piano, synthezisers), Jussi Lehtonen (drums, percussions), Sampo Tiittanen (bass, electric bass), Joonatan Rautio (saxophone), Nina Mya (vocals) and Sam Huber (vocals).
 
In 2022 KAIRA is working with a new album AIR. This new album is modern mainstream instrumental jazz played by sextet with a strong horn section. The musicians on this album are: Markus Niittynen (piano), Heikko Remmel (bass), Jussi Lehtonen (drums), Abdissa Assefa (percussions), Timo Lassy (saxophone, flute), Kalevi Louhivuori (trumpet, flugel horn) and Kasperi Sarikoski (trombone).
