Ilpo Murtojärvi Quartet performs original material by their eponymous leader, written over his long career. Murtojärvi was selected as the Turku Jazz Artist of the Year in 2015, which inspired him to write new material for the group. At that turn, a new drummer was also recruited among the ranks.

The members of the Turku-based quartet have played together for several years, which translates into tight-knit communication on the stage. 

Their debut Skylarks came out in May 2017.
