Hands and Omens is a modern jazz trio formed by pianist Nikita Rafaelov, violinist Silva Kallionpää and bassist Joonas Tuuri.
Hands and Omens has operated since the spring 2016. Its members' musical roots are strongly in the jazz but in their output influences from classical music can be heard as well. Above all their music passes on energy and delicate interaction between the musicians as they all support each other. They search for new acoustic sound through freedom and communicative co-play. The stripped-down ensemble is used open-mindedly without ready-made models.
The band's debut album Where the Solid Ends was released in September 2019. The members have drawn inspiration to their unique compositions from the literary works of Edgar Allan Poe, Daniil Harms and Knut Hamsun. The moods of absurdism and horror cleverly created in the books fascinate the musicians, and they seek to construct worlds and stories by means of musical expression.
