Grímsey was founded in 2015 to perform the compositions by guitarist-composer Matti Saarinen. The debut album of Grímsey was recorded in Helsinki in August 2015 and Icelandic label Warén Music released it in June 2016. The second album was released in May 2019 by Finnish label Eclipse Music.
