Native of Kesälahti, North Karelia, Tuomas Juhani Turunen (b. 1985) is a pianist and a composer based in Helsinki. Turunen started his studies at the jazz department of Sibelius Academy in 2005, studying under the instruction of Jarmo Savolainen, Jukkis Uotila and Seppo Kantonen, among others.

Turunen works as a freelance pianist, performing both in Finland and abroad regularly. A composer and an arranger in several different bands, group sizes ranging from solo to big bands, Turunen collaborates actively with some of the best artists of his generation in Finland and Sweden. He plays, among others, in such groups as Elena & The Rom Ensemble, Aili Ikonen Tribute to Ella, Anna Inginmaa & Tuomas J. Turunen duo, Fifth Avenue and the  Air Force Big Band.
