Ahola studied trumpet in Tampere Conservatory in 1979 - 1988 under Raimo Sarmas' tuition. He also masters drums, guitar and keyboards. Ahola works also as a studio technician and producer, and he teaches trumpet students. 

He has played since 1897 in such bands as Chariots Gospel Big Band, Tampere Big Band, Cosmic Cheesus, Gasoline Girls & Petrol Boys, 7 Seinähullua Veljestä, Masa Orpana Brothers, Rakka and Groovy Eyes. Ahola has collaborated both in studio and on tours with over a hundred ensembles and artists.
