Joona Hulmi is an improvising pianist influenced by a wide range of musical styles.

Over the years, he has been active in collectives focused on free improvisation, such as Uusi Jazzi Klubi and the Helsinki Improvisers Orchestra, and has also collaborated with Oiro Pena. Hulmi has studied composition under Iro Haarla. Working at the intersection of the arts, he is also an architect, specializing in building design and particularly in traditional construction.
