Hanne Pulli

drummer
hanne-pulli

Hanne Pulli (s. 1982) is considered as a versatile and style-concious drummer and has been thanked for her natural air of drumming and for her musicality. She has good knowledge of jazz traditions with something new and interesting.

Hanne Pulli was brought up around music as her parents are music teachers and music enthusiasts. From age 5 to 16 she played violin in Savonlinna Music Institute, but she knew very early that she wanted to play drums. She finally got her wish through, when Pekka-dad bought a drum set as a joke. After a year, Hanne could already play more than her father!

At the age of 16, she was accepted to Sibelius Junior Academy Of Jazz Music, where she was taught by Teppo Mäkynen, Markus Ketola, Kari Ikonen, Esa Onttonen and Mika Kallio. Since then she has been studying jazzmusic with different teachers and mentors and has graduated from both Jyväskylä Conservatoire and Helsinki Polytechnic.

This distinctively creative and expressive player was chosen to ”Pori Jazz Artist Of The Year” in 2005. In the same year she was the first Finn ever to be chosen to IAJE’s (Association For Jazz Education) ”Sisters In  Jazz All Stars” program. The combo performed in several Jazz Festivals both in Europe and US.

Recently Pulli has been working with many bands, such as Kvalda and Hanne Pulli Space Machine. In spring 2009 Hanne joined the European Jazz Orchestra (organized by EBU, European Broadcasting Union) for a three week European tour with musicians from all over Europe. The Big Band toured with conducter and composer Peter Herbolzheimer and performed in nine different countries.
