Aurora Hentunen is a pianist-composer originally from Lappeenranta, who has played and composed to multiple different ensembles. Her work is mainly known from her own band Aurora Hentunen Quartet. Hentunen has published two albums (Second Spring, 2018 and Frost, 2019) and got great reviews in Finland and abroad. Quartet tours actively in Europe and is expanding their work to also clinics and workshops in music schools and big bands.

Aurora Hentunen has studied jazz music outside of Finland in the Netherlands at Prince Claus Conservatory in Groningen and the Conservatory of Amsterdam, with teachers such as Kevin Hays, Adam Nussbaum, Jasper van't Hof, Harmen Fraanje, David Berkman, Marc van Roon and many more.

Moving to abroad expanded Hentunen's chances to find her own way and sound for composing. Aurora Hentunen's music draws inspiration from northern nature and different cultures. Her music contains a lot of references from Northern Jazz and melodies from Scandinavian folk music, and it has been described as very compositional and the band as distinctive, led by mature young musicians.

The band is considered as one of the rising stars in the Northern Jazz scene. The rewarded Dutch pianist-composer Jasper van't Hof has described Hentunen's music as "the definite touch of the Scandinavian".

"...It's important to emphasize the importance of the long-term development of the quartet for Hentunen's composership and musicianship. The sound created together is unique, well recognizable in its airiness and organicness. And just as it was revealed for the debut album, Hentunen's strength is something very special: she is able to combine melodic clarity and ease of understanding with structurally diverse and rich entities." - Pentti Ronkanen / Suomijazz.com
