Biography

Ultralum, founded by Aki Haarala and Riku Karvonen and consisting of internationally recognized musicians, released their debut album in May 2023.

In addition to Aki Haarala and Riku Karvonen, the influential musicians on the collective's album include e.g. Timo Lassy, Jaska Lukkarinen, Ville Herrala, Tuomo Prättälä, Emma Salokoski, Mika Mylläri, Lauri Porra and Jussi Jaakonaho.

The process of making an Ultralum album is completely extraordinary. The music is allowed to live completely freely in such a way that each musician creates his own part independently, without any kind of guidance or wish for what kind of performance should be produced for the recording.

The music of the album was created based on the ideas of Haarala and Karvonen. In addition to Finland, the album has been worked on, e.g. in Hong Kong, Benin and Nashville. The end result is multi-layered and interesting music where different genres combine in a natural way. In Ultralum's music, you can clearly hear the organicity of the process - this is living music.
