Biography
The album So Far, So Me by the trio led by jazz singer Mirja Mäkelä consists mainly of Mäkelä's own compositions and draws from the lyrics of well-known poets.
Mirja Mäkelä, who was the first singer to graduate from the jazz department of Sibelius Academy in 1999, has built her career as a strong interpreter. In addition to several international projects and Big Band solo visits, Mäkelä has sung e.g. in the JimJamMurMur Quartet together with Johanna Iivanainen, Mia Simanainen and Jenny Robson. In 2003, the a cappella band won the Tampereen Sävel festival's band competition and toured with Jazz Finland in 2002 and 2008.
The singer's current band is a chamber jazz trio with Tuomo Dahlblom on guitar and Juho Kivivuori on bass. Mirja Mäkelä Trio has previously released two albums: Runoisa (2008) and My Hidden Joys (2015).
In addition to the trio's regular members, the album features other top names in Finnish jazz. Saxophonist Manuel Dunkel and percussionist Mikko Hassinen each guest on two tracks from the album.
