Composer Pekka Toivonen's shameless new Ensemble record stretches towards classical music through jazz and free.

Pacemaker shows both sides of Pekka Toivonen Ensemble, marrying jazz and classical. 

"Our music is poison and juice. On this album, both severity and sensitivity are presented, but also composed and free music. Side A is a series of written works, Side B is a painted whole - in fact a kind of free jazz symphony in three parts," Pekka Toivonen describes.

Toivonen, who is also known as a graphic artist and visual artist, avoids definitions of music. His hashtag #pärtrane is a self-ironic combination of Toivonen's most important musical role models: Arvo Pärt clasping hands with John Coltrane. Pacemaker is sometimes emotionally beautiful, sometimes wildly uninhibited.

The album's title track features a Tammisaari nightingale - and the legendary DJ Tixa. The digital distribution of the album also includes the single released by AKT last year,Tuntematon mies.
