Biography
Embark on The Watercolors' La Grande Odyssée and let them guide you through a captivating musical journey.
Inaugurated in 2018, The Watercolors create intricate soundscapes by blending Afro-American jazz and Western classical music influences. Their music seamlessly weaves improvisation, jazz rhythms, and rich harmonies, embodying the band's name with an elegant and refined sound.
The outcome goes beyond conventional musical boundaries, stepping into the realm of art. The band is led by composer Janne Saarinen on the oboe and English horn, accompanied by the talented lineup of Ilkka Uksila on the vibraphone, Joonas Tuuri on the double bass and Joonas Leppänen on drums. With this release, there is the addition of a beautiful string section to the lineup, consisting of Aino Rautakorpi on the violin, Helena Dumell on the viola, and Saara Viika on the cello.
La Grande Odyssée (The Great Odyssey) gracefully unveiled itself through the inaugural single, Atlantis, a composition that flawlessly captures the band's elegant and playful essence. Now, the entire album stands before us, shimmering with its enchanting notes and inviting listeners on a musical journey of sophistication and whimsy.
True to its title, the album unfolds like a theatrical experience, gracefully meandering through captivating twists and turns. The songs seamlessly come together to craft a musical journey, skillfully navigating between the realms of slow and fast, whimsical and melancholic, dynamic and soft. The overall result is a harmonious blend that beautifully captures the essence of the album's title—a great odyssey of sound.
Building upon the elegance and craftsmanship showcased in the first single, The Watercolors further elaborate on their spirited style through thoughtful craftsmanship. This album highlights their versatility and delicate artistry, providing a listening experience that is both engaging and pleasant. The album invites listeners to reach for it again as they appreciate the nuanced and versatile layers within the compositions.
