Biography

Kuvia nuoruudesta ('Pictures of Youth') is the debut album by composer-singer Helmi Antila.

The album's tracks are performed by the Helmi Antila Quartet, led by Antila, and also featuring vibraphonist and percussionist Mikko Antila, bassist Tuomo Purhonen, and drummer Mooses Kuloniemi. The album also includes guest appearances by viola player Aida Hadzajlic, cellist Alma Antila, and guitarist Jarmo Saari. Helmi Antila, the lead vocalist, plays piano and violin on the album. Antila has written most of the songs on the album and produced it together with sound engineer Joel Ward.

"I've been waiting a long time to release a full album. Finally, people will get to hear what's really going on inside my head. The album tells stories about falling in love, mental health challenges, and the twists and turns of learning to cope with life's uncertainties. Since many of the songs are so personal and almost like entries from my diary, of course I'm nervous, but I guess that's part of the release process. I've been working on these songs since 2016, so this album truly holds pictures of my youth and young adulthood, which is where the album title comes from," Antila reflects.
