Biography

The nine-person "mini big band" Njet Njet 9 continues shaking up the Finnish jazz scene with its third album III. The album presents refined soundscapes, instrumentals that are based on strong melodies and seminal guest vocalists from Stina Koistinen to Paleface. III focuses on small miracles of life, highlights the themes of safety and lack thereof and makes an appeal for global solidarity.

Known for their electrifying live performances, Njet Njet 9 continues its energetic style with III, while also presenting a calmer side. Lead by keyboard player Ville Kyttälä, the band consists of Finnish jazz musicians that also perform with other lineups. Among other members, Linda Fredriksson from the band Mopo and UMO's conductor Ville Vannemaa give impactful solo performances.

The album's singles, the hypnotically minimalistic Taikuri and the furiously pompous Send in the piglets created a buzz among music lovers. The third single Rajat was streamed over 10 000 times already on its launch weekend via Spotify.

In addition to strong instrumental pieces the album features several guest vocalists. Long-term collaborator and Teosto award-winning Stina Koistinen joins forces with Njet Njet 9 again for the dreamy song Safe. The heavyweight of Finnish rap Paleface and "the voice of Egypts revolution" living currently in exile in the Nordic region, Ramy Essam collaborate in the final song of the album, Rajat. The song Come Together, which takes cues from psychedelic soul, features the strong vocals of young, up-and-coming talent Kaisa Sainio.

Already a band that mixes different styles in a candid way, the new album sees Njet Njet 9 take oninfluences from many, often surprising sources. Traditional jazz tones, full-bodied wind instrument sound and skillful expressions of improvation take on additional cues from electric and different world music styles, from the fjords of Norway to the Middle East.
