Biography

Pianist and keyboardist Aki Rissanen, one of the most internationally known Finnish jazz artists of the moment, changes his musical gear again, now together with Swedish-Turkish drummer Robert Ikizi and his long-time playing partner trumpeter Verneri Pohjola.

Hyperreal is Aki Rissanen's sixth album released on the British label Edition Records. The album is also the first Finnish jazz record that is also released in multi-channel Dolby Atmos and Apple Spatial formats.

Hyperreal is an album about change and recognizing the importance of becoming aware, renewing and letting go, as Rissanen says: "The music is inspired by the time of change we all live in at the moment. When reality is rapidly changing into virtual reality or hyperreality created by artificial intelligence, we must be aware of this and adapt to distinguish what is real and unreal."

Rissanen continues: "I lived in France in 2021-22, and in an open-minded, art-saturated environment the idea of ​​jumping into something new and unknown to me became clear to me: making music that combines Nordic jazz, Middle Eastern-influenced rhythms, experimental sound art and pop. I focused more on making music with the computer and electronic keyboards. The idea of ​​combining my two previous duos with Verneri and Robert came naturally when I was thinking about the line-up. Both are definitely among my favorite musicians."
