Biography

Guitarist Ossi Maristo’s debut album Arc draws from instrumental prog rock and jazz fusion alike, and is a musical tour de force by a world-class guitarist and his band.

As a man of numerous studio and live sessions, Ossi Maristo is already well-known for his talent within musical circles. Now it's time for the wider audience to enjoy his innovative and masterful guitar technique as well as his compositions. Besides Maristo's first-rate guitar-playing, special mention must be made of the band's excellent work. In addition to Maristo himself, Arc features Kasperi Kallio (keyboard), Tapio Backlund (bass) and Jonne Taavitsainen (drums).

A Metropolia UAS graduate, Maristo began his musical career by playing the piano at the age of nine. Three years later he discovered the guitar, and his teen years were spent playing at every opportunity, occasionally even skipping school. Maristo's earliest musical influences came from rock, AOR and pop, but as he delved deeper into the art of guitar-playing, he became inspired by jazz and jazz fusion.

Maristo describes the album's background: "Understanding and combining different genres has been a great help in defining myself as a guitarist and as a composer. The musicians in my band also come from musically diverse backgrounds which allows the music heard on Arc to be anything and everything but ordinary."
