Biography

Alight is the second album by Tahmela Six, recorded outdoors on 15 August 2025 at Palmutsaari farm in Kiikala, where the field meets the forest. No studio walls, no isolation booths; wind, insects, warmth and distance are part of the recording, not edited around it. Free jazz played in open space, with the place itself as a co-improviser.

Tahmela Six came together in late 2023 around an idea audio engineer Jarno Alho had been carrying for some time: gather players he admired from Tampere, Helsinki and Turku, and capture a free jazz session in full from first sound to last. The debut album Mount (MMM001, 2024) was recorded in a single day at Tahmela's Villa in Tampere and sold out two vinyl pressings. Its closing piece, Cat of The Paju, pointed beyond the room. Alight takes that gesture literally.
