Among We Jazz’s latest concert announcements are Japanese jazz legend Yasuaki Shimizu, who will perform at Tavastia Club in Helsinki on November 8, and American noise music classic Wolf Eyes, who will play at Ääniwalli on October 5.

Legendary Japanese artist Yasuaki Shimizu will arrive in Finland for the first time and perform at Tavastia on Sunday, November 8. Saxophonist and composer Shimizu’s early-1980s albums Kakashi and Utakata No Hibi are timeless classics that continue to find new generations of fans decade after decade. Over a career spanning nearly 50 years, Shimizu has collaborated with artists including Ryuichi Sakamoto, Björk, Van Dyke Parks, and David Cunningham. In addition to his many outstanding albums, he has created commissioned works and music for installations and films. His music combines a deep understanding of Japanese musical traditions, popular culture, and jazz, together with a constantly present spirit of playful experimentation. Kakashi is an excellent example of how pioneering open-mindedness can produce music that extends far beyond genre definitions and remains untouched by the passage of time. Shimizu recently toured North America for the first time, selling out every concert on the tour, and one of the most unique and delightful surprises of Helsinki’s autumn concert season can be expected here.

Wolf Eyes, a pioneer of modern noise music, will come to Helsinki and perform at Ääniwalli on Monday, October 5. Operating at the intersection of noise rock, industrial, and hardcore, Wolf Eyes originated in Michigan in the mid-1990s and is now an internationally respected name in avant-garde music, whose live performances are always surprising experiences. The return to Helsinki of the duo consisting of John Olson and Nate Young has been anticipated for years following their previous sold-out shows. Wolf Eyes will tour Europe this autumn in support of their new release Self Emblamed, and audiences can certainly expect fresh music that takes shape in the moment and through interaction during the live performance.

The organizer of these concerts is Helsinki-based We Jazz, which has recently expanded its activities beyond its record label, magazine, and festival productions to become an active concert promoter. Going forward, We Jazz Agency will organize concerts on a regular basis, presenting artists whose music it believes in. A particular focus for We Jazz is invigorating Helsinki’s live music scene throughout the year.
