The music of Gothenburg-based Dark Horse bends towards deep, experimental waters. Their newest single Brutet Groove gives a taste of the band's upcoming Listen album, which will be released in November by We Jazz and celebrated on December 3rd at We Jazz Festival.

Swedish trio Dark Horse's full-length album Listen, which features free improvisation and minimalist compositions, will see the light of day on 13th November. Formed by pianist John Holmström, bassist Alfred Lorinus and drummer Mårten Magnefors, Dark Horse is known for its hypnotic live performances and the trio's record release gig will be experienced in Helsinki on 3rd December as part of We Jazz festival.

Dark Horse's new album Listen has been recorded in a cottage owned by the family of pianist Holmström on the Norwegian coast. The album's tracks have been selected from two days worth of recording sessions.

We Jazz Records will release Dark Horse’s Listen album on vinyl and digitally on November 13th. This is the third publication in a row to feature the work of visual artist Maija Lassila. This time, Lassila's 2016 painting Overwhelming Structure adorns the album cover. Dark Horse's new album has been mixed and mastered by saxophonist Jonas Kullhammar from the band Koma Saxo.

"Dark Horse has a sound of its own. (…) succeed to balance between free-form, almost chaotic interplay and disciplined development of very different cinematic soundscapes, full of detail, tension, surprise and color."
– Eyal Hareuveni, Salt Peanuts

"The notes fall without restraint from John Holmström’s piano while Alfred Lorinius picks notes from high up on and far below his bass. Mårten Magnefors invites us on a bumpy sightseeing across his drum kit (…) Dark Horse fires away spontaneously composed music where gravity and linear storytelling are not the main priority."
– Lira Music Magazine
