We Jazz Records released Koma Saxo’s long-awaited LIVE album

entry-image

The new album was recorded in front of a live audience at the 2019 We Jazz Festival. Petter Eldh, Jonas Kullhammar, Otis Sandsjö, Mikko Innanen and Christian Lillinger play on the powerful and brutally unedited live album.

We Jazz Records released the new album for the quintet Koma Saxo led by Berlin bassist Petter Eldh on April 30th. The album captures the rapturous gig recorded at the We Jazz Festival in Helsinki's G Livelab in 2019. While on their acclaimed debut album Koma Saxo relied on Eld’s visionary studio production, the band is now heard completely raw, without post-editing and straight from the stage. On LIVE, the band shows that at the heart of its futuristic studio sound is an exceptional acoustic jazz band whose music is live fire and brimstone. Eldh on bass, Christian Lillinger on drums and Jonas Kullhammar, Otis Sandsjö and Mikko Innanen on the wind instruments form the band.

With their international critically acclaimed debut album Koma Saxo (2019), the Eldh-Lillinger pair has welded into a close-knit unit after playing together in the ranks of the prestigious Amok Amor, among others.

Petter Eldh from Lysekil, Sweden, is not only a praised bassist, but also a visionary producer. Eldh's recent productions include e.g. his bandmates, also Berlin-based Swedish saxophonist Otis Sandsjö's We Jazz Records albums Y-OTIS (2018) and Y-OTIS 2 (2020) and singer Lucia Cadotsch's acclaimed Speak Low II, released by We Jazz Records in November 2020. Koma Saxo was also recently heard with the seven-inch single Erzeben Strasse / Erzeben Koma by We Jazz.

We Jazz Records released the LIVE album on CD and digitally on April 30th. The album will also be available in black and silver vinyl edition, which will hit stores on June 4th. A bundle version will also be available, which in addition to color vinyl will include unreleased Koma Saxo material as a seven-inch vinyl single.

"Vibrant, flexing and free-spirited, another essential contemporary jazz album from one of Europe’s best labels."
– Monolith Cocktail

"Finland – the happiest country in the world, apparently… Well that’s not really a surprise when they’ve got We Jazz Records, the Helsinki-based label, dedicated to keeping pulses racing and minds open."
– Backseat Mafia

“The mood? It sounds like an Ayler-suffused band that has just been employed by a Caribbean nation to launch a new anthem for a recently annexed ancient Eastern European principality.”
– Free Jazz Collective
