The event successfully debuted in last December is to be continued in December 2014 with spacial and musical experiments. M.A. Numminen has promised as the official protector of the festival.
The jazz event organized by the Helsinki-based creative office We Jazz ltd. for the first time in December 2013, is to be continued. We Jazz 2014 is organized on 8-13 December in Helsinki and the venues and the whole schedule are released during the summer. The event focused in it's debut on spacial experiments and versatile jazz selection and this year the event goes even deeper in these themes. Most of the venues are changing and the schedule includes again both the experimental shows studying the boarders of jazz performance and the more traditional concert content curated with the unprejudiced touch.
"In the core of the identity of We Jazz event lies constant change, but we are not afraid of making a tradition of some of the elements", tells Matti Nives, the artistic director of the event. "As a counterbalance for the wildest experiments the event offers more grounded elements. On the other hand, this kind of spacial freedom gives us the possibility to invent We Jazz again. The role of Helsinki as a central framework for the event gets even more important and we want to become jazz tourists in our own home town again."
M.A. Numminen, who announced the opening words of We Jazz 2013, is continuing the tradition and works this year also as the official protector of the festival. As the producer of the event works this year again Annika Mustonen, as the communication coordinator Katariina Rantapää, as the technical producer Eero Löyttyjärvi and as the artistic director Matti Nives.
We Jazz 2013 was recently awarded at the Femma Awards with the Mesta-Femma Award as the "place where music is doing well". In addition, the advertising campaign designed by Nives and photographer Miikka Pirinen got the first honorary award on the the Advertisment of the Year gala of Aikakausmedia in November 2013 and got to the shortlist of the best street ads of the month in Marketing & Media magazine in October. The awarded ad was released in Image magazine that worked as a partner for We Jazz 2013.
