The Unelmien karavaani (Caravan of Dreams) tour brings two new groups with their shared, freer approach to jazz music to Southern Finland 19-23 November. Simo Laihonen, Sami Pekkola and Patric Thorman have formed a new trio and they will now present the fruits of their labour live for the first time. The Caravan consists also of a group of jazz nomads from Turku, whose loaded psychedelia will not fail to make you dance.

Drummer Simo Laihonen and saxophonist Sami Pekkola are known as active musicians in their own fields. After playing a handful of duo concerts together, the pair started taking the idea of a duo group more seriously and working on some material together. Earlier focus on steadier build-ups and longer arches has been replaced by spontaneous, sporadic overflow of energy in the manner of old-school free jazz. Now Swedish double bassist Patric Thorman joins the game brining in some fresh drive from the other side of the Gulf of Bothnia. His unconditional devotion to his own musical style has made him a sought-after name in Stockholm’s jazz circles.

The idea of this group had been ripening for a long time before finally coming true. We are talking about a dream team built around the group Sir Trio, who have found their inspiration from Ornette Coleman’s Prime Time era. This five-piece is composed of Finnish free jazz veterans with reinforcement from the field of psychedelia in the person of Jari Suominen of the band Jarse. Wear your craziest dance shoes for this occasion, otherwise this cocktail of free jazz and psychedelia will knock you off your feet!
