UMO Jazz Orchestra’s spring season is in full swing – the beat is going up. More treats below.

Good Friday’s Traditional Church Concert

It was almost 20 years ago when UMO gave their first, special Good Friday concert. Themed and titled, Silent Music, this tradition of Easter time treats goes on this year, too. This time, UMO will team up with one of Finland’s finest women choirs, KYN, known for their unique collaborations with jazz bands and musicians. The programme will consist of Finnish music penned by the likes of Anna-Mari Kähärä and Mikko Hassinen, the latter of whom is also responsible for a large number of the arrangements to be heard in the concert. UMO will be conducted by Kirmo Lintinen, KYN by Kaija Viitasalo.

Young Trumpeter Tomi Nikku to Front UMO in April

UMO’s concert series at Koko Jazz Club and the major concert halls of Helsinki (Malmitalo, Kanneltalo, Vuotalo) will be continued. This spring’s third concert series tackles the influence of Broadway on the development of jazz, and the many unforgettable compositions that have enriched its tradition. The soloist will be the bright and young trumpet player Tomi Nikku, whose signature soft and warm trumpet sound plays a major role in such rising groups as Bowman Trio, Mikko Sarvanne Hip Company and Sointi Jazz Orchestra.
