UMO Jazz Orchestra has compiled the 40 years of their history onto one website. The site comprises a wide variety of data on UMO, including bios, videos and newspaper articles.

40 Years of UMO is now available to the public on www.umo.fi/40. The site includes data on more than 2000 concerts and the bios of the more than 50 recordings by UMO and of the over 50 musicians who have played in the big band over the years.

Collaboration with YLE Elävä Arkisto (YLE Living Archive) and YLE Areena (YLE Arena) has enabled the inclusion of dozens of concert recordings and news snippets. In addition, there are as many as 70 videos from UMO’s own archives available on the site.

All recordings made exclusively for the use of YLE in the years 1975-1998, amounting to over 10 hours, can also be accessed on the website. These kinds of so-called “kantanauha” recordings were commissioned by YLE from a number of artists especially in the 60s, 70s and 80s, to promote the production of music that fell out of the sphere of popular music recordings. YLE owns the rights to these recordings, and the music is rarely available commercially.

UMO celebrates their anniversary year by offering an exceptionally memorable concert programme this year. Choose from musical trips to the golden past, concerts starring hot international soloists and a number of premieres from Finland’s best jazz composers. In 2015 UMO will also play at a number of Finnish and international jazz festivals.
